Road Trip Route & Itinerary Planner

Enter where you’re starting, where you’re going, and how you like to travel. The planner estimates your distance, driving time, fuel use, and trip cost, then splits the journey into a day-by-day itinerary with suggested stops.

Your route

Places you’ll pass through, in travel order, separated by commas. Example: Islamabad, Naran

Leave blank to estimate it. For a more accurate plan, or for places outside our demo list, enter the one-way distance from a map app.

Your trip

Sights or detours you want to add. Rest breaks are suggested automatically.

Travel style
Your vehicle

Your vehicle’s real-world average. If you know L/100 km, divide 100 by that number.

Enter the current local price. We don’t use live fuel prices.

Your budget

Total for your whole group per night.

Trip total for tolls, parking, entry fees, activities, and similar costs.

How the road trip planner works

The planner turns a few details about your trip into a plan you can check, adjust, and take with you. Every number comes from a simple, visible calculation.

  1. It works out the distance

If you enter a known road distance, the planner uses it. Otherwise, in demo mode, it measures the straight-line distance between places in its built-in list and multiplies it by a road factor, because roads are never straight.

  2. It estimates driving time

Each leg’s distance is divided by an average speed for your vehicle type. Mountain legs use a lower speed, since winding roads are slower.

  3. It splits the drive into days

Driving is grouped into days that stay within your daily limit, adjusted for your travel style. Via places become natural day ends where possible, and long legs are split with an overnight point.

  4. It adds stops and costs

Rest breaks are suggested at regular intervals, your planned stops are spread across driving days, and fuel, accommodation, food, and other costs are added up.

The formulas behind your estimates

Your results show each formula with your own numbers filled in, so you can check the math.

Distance

Road distance ≈ straight-line distance × road factor

Demo mode uses a road factor of 1.25 on lowland legs and 1.5 on mountain legs. A connected routing service or a distance you enter replaces this estimate.

Driving time

Driving time = distance ÷ average speed

Average speeds are 70 km/h for cars and SUVs, 65 for vans, 60 for motorcycles and 55 for RVs, halved on mountain legs. Break time is not included.

Fuel used and fuel cost

Fuel used = distance ÷ efficiency
Fuel cost = fuel used × fuel price

For an EV, efficiency is in km per kWh and the price is per kWh of charging.

Total trip cost

Total = fuel + accommodation + food + other expenses

Accommodation = nightly budget × nights (trip days − 1). Food = daily budget × travelers × trip days.

Average driving per day

Average per day = total driving time ÷ trip days

Your results also show the average across driving days only, which is closer to what a travel day feels like.

Daily driving limit

Planned daily limit = max driving hours × style factor

The style factor is 0.8 for Relaxed, 0.9 for Balanced and 1.0 for Adventure.

Road trip planner FAQ

How accurate is the distance estimate?

In demo mode, the distance is an estimate based on straight-line distance and a road factor. It can differ from the actual road distance, especially on winding mountain routes. For the most accurate plan, check the one-way distance in a map app and enter it in the “Known road distance” field.

Does the planner use live traffic, road conditions or fuel prices?

No. The planner doesn’t use live traffic, road closures, weather, or fuel prices. You enter the fuel price yourself, and you should check road conditions with official sources before you travel, especially for seasonal mountain passes.

What if my starting point or destination isn’t in the list?

Enter the place name as usual, then add the one-way road distance in the “Known road distance” field. The planner will use your distance and build the itinerary from it.

How do I find my vehicle’s fuel efficiency?

Your trip computer may show it, or you can fill the tank, note the distance you drive, and divide it by the litres needed to fill up again. If you know the figure in L/100 km, divide 100 by it to get km/L. Loaded vehicles, air conditioning, and hills all increase fuel use, so adding a margin is wise.

Why does my plan have more days than I entered?

If the driving can’t fit your daily limit within your trip length, the planner shows the extra driving days it needs and a warning. You can raise your maximum driving hours, choose a different travel style, or lengthen the trip.

How are suggested stops chosen?

Rest breaks are placed at regular intervals based on your travel style, and one break on longer days is marked as a meal and fuel stop. Your planned stops are spread across driving days, giving more to longer days. The planner shows roughly where each stop falls along the day’s drive, so you can choose a suitable place nearby.

Can I save my itinerary?

Yes. After calculating, you can print it, copy it to paste into notes or a message, or download it as a text file. No account is needed, and your trip details aren’t sent anywhere by the planner itself.
